Games Rules
Rules for after you have created your character:
You can only buy the first dot in any influence, as long as you have a reason. You can set your
Influence on "grow". This means you will start getting more on your own without role playing for
any. When it is on grow you cannot use it at all. If you do, it comes off grow and can never be set on
grow again. You can trade influence. This is just how it sounds. You can chose to get the ability
instead of information when using a Influence. This will be described at a later point. You can at
anytime role play for more points in a influence with your ST, you do have to spend 1xp per point
you earn. But this cuts out the waiting. Do keep in mind, there are different types of one influence;
example, Military Influence can be Rebel, Corsec, Empire, or just generic. Just like knowledge, if
you specialize in a type of influence you will get better info, and more results.
Resources:
The level of resources a character has reflects the housing, transportation, and money the a
character has to work with in the game. Resource is the income of your character and is given to
the player at the beginning of each home game. For value purposes, think of it as your real life
income.
Level Pay out per Game Session
- 500 Credits
- 1,000 Credits
- 3,000 Credits
- 10,000 Credits
- 30,000 Credits
Allies:
Allies reflects people you know who can help you get things done. Allies may be used to pull
influence, gather information, and help you out in a bind. Allies are people your character knows
that can help them out if they are in a bit of trouble. Allies are not limited to anything specific and
each dot represents one ally. For game sake, the player should write a small description of the
ally and what he does so there is no abuse of an ally. Allies also tend to have a habit of asking for
the favor at a later date as friends help friends out....right?
Contacts:
Contacts are people that you can call on to get information. Basically they can get you information
equal to the level that you extend in a certain influence (ie...temporarily expending contacts 4 on
Underworld will get a player the news and rumors as if they had Underworld 4. Think of contacts
as forms of information. Contacts can get you most any information that you may need but only
information. After being used, your contacts lay low for a game session before you can use them
again. Some ST's prefer a description of the contact, just like allies. Each dot of contact is equal to
one dot of information from any Influence. Example....i spend 3 dots of contacts to get 3 dots worth
of transportation information of a ship im trying to track.
Retainers:
For each point placed in the Retainers background one additional retainer is added to the
characters ante range. retainers are player controlled NPC's that are either being payed to assist
or many other reasons. ST's have the right to set them up as they see fit to be fair to everyone.
Also, should a retainer be killed or lost, ST's hold the right to make you earn another as who wants
to work for someone who gets their employee's killed.
To build a retainer you follow the standard character creation guide, with the exception that they
can't get influences nor backgrounds, and they don't get the freebie points. They also cannot have
any negative traits nor any merits nor flaws. You can put Xp into them at a rate of 1 of your Xp = 5
Xp for them. You can put up to 5 of your Xp into them for a total of 25 Xp for the retainer.
Arsenal:
Arsenal reflects the level of fire power and armor a character is able to find. They happen to know
a guy that knows a guy that is selling something. Arsenal is probably the most misused
background. All that Arsenal does, is let you get into contact with someone who can supply
weapons of what ever legal type you need, based on the Arsenal dots spent. You still have to buy,
and roleplay for it but you know the right people to contact.
The level of arsenal are:
Level Type
- Specialized
- Licensed
- Rare/Restricted
- Military
- Illegal
Backing:
For every dot in the Backing background, the character has a 7-5-3 goon available on request from
one's society. You can use the goon how ever you see fit, however if the goon dies then the
character loses one of their accumulated reputation points. If the character has no reputation then
they not request goons from society. Backing is only really useful to those that belong to a faction.
Backing allows players to call upon extra help, for tight situation, extra security, or for scare factor.
Each point of backing use represents a weaker than normal character that assists you. Should the
character die, you lose a point of reputation permanently. You could also suffer side effects from
your factions.
Safe house:
can either be multiple safe houses or how good of a safe house you have. This background
varies based on the players choice. Each dot can equal a different basic safe house that is
unknown to anyone else, or the dots could equal 1 secure safe house. The player must have a
write up for the safe house to give to an ST so that should anyone declare pursuit or actions
against a person with this background, a fair chance can be given to both players. If no write up is
given...it is left to the ST's decision which normally means the door is unlocked.
Mentor:
a mentor who you can call on for help. Depending on how many ranks you have and what you ask
for depends how often they will refresh. Sometimes, depending on the favor, you will have perform
a feat for your mentor to get back in good standings. Mentor is a very powerful background if used
correctly. A write up is a must on who your mentor is as well as what faction he may belong to as
well as who, what, where, when, how, why, he is your mentor. Any favor asked from the mentor is
definatly going to be returned as your mentor always wants something. The bigger you ask, the
bigger the return.
Space Ship:
The Space Ship background reflects the type of space ship that the character can access. This
does not account for the characters ability to fly the craft only the craft itself. Each dot purchased in
the Space Ship background allows the character to get a bigger and better space craft. A one time
use background, spaceship lets the player start off with a starship of some sort, based on the lvl
of dots. Starships can be very expensive so this can be a good investment....as long as you know
how to drive/fly it.
They are as follow:
Level Type
- Land Based Craft
- Used Star fighter
- New Star fighter
- Used Freighter/Transport Vessel
- New Freighter/Transport Vessel
