Character Creation: Let the Magic Begin, WOOT!
Step 1: Choose your
Nature & Demeanor
Species
Class
Faction
Step 2: Pick your Attributes
Players have 30 Points to distribute throughout attributes. All attribute categories are required to
have a minimum of 3 points in each, and a maximum of 10 at any point of play (unless race
specifies otherwise). We don't require you name each trait, you can if you want.
Step 3: The squishy parts
Abilities
Players start with 10 points to place in abilities. In Class abilities are listed in the Class
descriptions and cost one point for one level. Out of Class abilities are any abilities other than
those listed as In Class and cost two points per level, and is subject to ST approval before
purchase. The maximum level a single ability can reach is five.
Backgrounds
Players start with 5 points to distribute throughout backgrounds. Backgrounds are listed in the
Backgrounds section, and cost one point for one level in the Background. The initial maximum in
a single Background is 5, however for every level of reputation over 5 a player may add 1 level to
the max (ie...a player with six reputation can buy up to level 6 in their backgrounds). A player may
buy one reputation for five experience, to a max of three total rep. A player may only buy
Background Influence up to your current reputation plus one.
Feats
Players start with 2 class feats, choices listed under the Class section, and 1 basic feat listed
under the Feats section. Players may buy extra feats (Basic, Intermediate, Advanced) with
experience and freebie points. Basic Feats cost 4 Exp and have a learning time of 1 month.
Intermediate Feats cost 7 Exp and have a learning time of 2 months. Advanced Feats cost 10 Exp
and have a learning time of 3 months. Class, Prestige, and Society Feats all cost 4 Exp and take
1 month to learn.
The learning time of feats is optional and you might not want to include it in your game. You may
allow some feats to be able to learn quickly others not so much, it depends on how you want to
run your game. That's what house rules are for anyway.
Step 4: Ironing the creases
Willpower
Players start out with 2 willpower at CC. Additional Willpower may be purchased with Experience
and freebie points, it costs 3 Exp for one willpower. Wisdom can grant additional willpower as
well. At level 5 and 10 in the Wisdom attribute, the player gains one additional willpower at no
experience cost (other than the experience to attain levels 5 and 10 in the Wisdom attribute
category). Maximum Willpower is 10, plus species bonus.
Wounds
When a player is determining their wounds (levels of bodily damage), add 5 plus 1/2 of the traits
currently in the Constitution attribute rounded down. That number is wound points. As the
Constitution Attribute increases, so does the characters amount of wound. The maximum
amount of wound levels a character is allowed is 10, plus species bonus.
Vitality
When a player is determining their vitality (levels of minor bodily damage), add the total number of
attributes in both the Constitution and Dexterity attributes. Then divide that total by 2 and add 5,
and round down. As the Constitution and Dexterity attribute total increases, so does the
characters amount of vitality. A player is not hindered in combat or normal function when there is
a loss of vitality, even if all vitality is gone. A players maximum vitality is 15, plus species bonus.
Merits
At CC a character may start with maximum of 7 points worth of merits. These merits may be
purchased with experience and freebie points and are subject to ST approval. After CC, a
character may still buy Merits but at double the cost of the Merit at time of CC, and are still subject
to ST approval. More information on Merits can be found in the Merits and Flaws section.
Flaws
At CC, a character may start with a maximum of 7 points worth of flaws. At CC, Flaws add
experience that can be spent else where on the character. After CC, characters may not take
Flaws unless given to them by the ST, by way of earning the Flaw through role play or plot. Flaws
earned this way have no experience reimbursement, and the number of points of the Flaw do not
count as experience to be spent else where. All Flaws are subject to ST approval. More
information on Flaws and be found in the Merits and Flaws section.
Negative Traits
Players may opt to have negative traits at CC. Each point of a negative trait allots the character
one additional point to be spent elsewhere on the sheet. Also you may not buy off negative traits.
More information on negative traits, including a list of ones allowed, can be found in the Attributes
Section. Maximum of 10 negative traits allowed at character creation.
Freebies
Players are given 5 freebie point to spend anywhere on their character sheet that they wish.
Some items available for purchase are at ST discretion. Freebie points are given to allow players
to flush out the Character more.
Step 5: Bring it to Life!
A character is more than just words and levels on a sheet! Now its time to think of who the
character is! What is their background? Where are they from? What are their secrets, motives,
appearance? What kind of equipment and things do they use? What are their little quirks? Bring
the character to life!
